Studies at the Albert Ludwigs Universität in Freiburg im Breisgau as well as in Bordeaux/Frankreich („Licencié en droit“). He passed his Second State Examination in the Regional Court District Freiburg. Since 1991, he is admitted as a self-employed lawyer. From 1991 to 1993 he was active in the international sector of the Hauptverband der Deutschen Bauindustrie (Central Association of the German Construction Industry) in Wiesbaden. From 1994 to 1996, he was responsible for the Economic Sector of the Association including the Legal Division for the German Construction Industry in the office in Bonn in the succession of Mr Heiermann, Mr Franke and Mr Peters. In this capacity, he was, inter alia, also a long-standing functionary of the “forum vergabe e.V.” (forum procurement) of the Regionalgruppe Ost (Regional Group East) which he headed for many years. In 1996, he became the Managing Director of the Bauindustrieverband Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. (Building Industry Association Berlin-Brandenburg) and remained in this capacity until August 2017. Among other things, he is co-founder and chairman of the Deutscher Baurechtstag and the head of the Regionalgruppe Berlin of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Baurecht (German Assocication for Building Law). For this association, he also drafted the Schlichtungsordnung für Bausachen (SchliO Bau, Rules of Arbitration in the Building Sector). In addition, Mr Wunschel is Assistant Professor at the Technical University Darmstadt and certificated mediator.
